Saturday 4th XI Match Reports - 2006

Aug 19t
h - Friendly Old Ignations 135 all out, CCC 139 for 4 - won by 6 wickets

Fine all round displays by Dean Johnson and Matt Shore secured an easy victory against mates of Spooks. Matt finished on 51 not out having earlier taken 2 for 14 and a catch to give skipper Neil Hale another wicket. Dean scored 56 and took 3 for 21 in an excellent opening spell that brought on 2 golden ducks in the opening over.

Meanwhile for Spooks there was an honourable 0 not out, allowing Matt Shore enough time to complete a deserved 50.

Aug 5th - Friendly against Shenley Village IV - Match Drawn

Lots of effort in this game as an unbeaten 117 from Kevin Brady put behind what has so far been a disappointing season from someone who should really be a third team regular. He was ably supported in his innings, in particular by skipper Neil Hale who chipped in with 40.

Everyone on the team got at least 2 overs of bowling but the Holtwhites pitch was the winner as the game ended in a draw.

July 29

Concessions by both Sawbridgeworth and Luton Town & Indians sees Fosters back up to second place and guarantees a top 4 finish.

Skipper Neil Hale has now confirmed with the League that 4 teams will definitely go up this season and therefore promotion to Division 12 has been achieved. An excellent effort by the 4th team in their inaugural season - well worth the experiment!

July 22 Reed III 185 all out drew with CCC 93 for 6

Not an ideal result for either side but Fosters by picking up 10 points have at least left themselves in a good position for promotion provided they win their final game next week.

Reed chose to bat first and were in a fair amount of trouble at 125 for 8. For once Richard Balby was out of the wickets but he was aided here by a fine spell of 5 for 60 from Dean Johnson and a somewhat surprising 3 for 71 from Spooks. Unfortunately the tail enders managed to keep avoiding the fielders and took the score to an unlikely 185 all out.

In response the weather ut paid to any real effort to chase down the runs and a draw was easily secured thanks to 21 from Matt Shore and an unbeaten 16 from skipper Hale.

Wishing Reed all the best in their match against Luton Town & Indians!

July 15 CCC 74 for 2 beat Chiltern 71 all out by 8 wickets

Chiltern chose to bat first on the run fest that is the Holtwhites bottom track.....but hadn't banked on the form of Chris Nickolls (3 for 16 off of 5 overs) or leading wicket taker Richard Blaby (5 for 38 from 10). Wickets fell at regular intervals and when Dean had to be taken off in case he injured the incoming youngsters, Ravi Solanki and Akash Singh quickly finished things off with 2 cheap wickets to close things out.

In response El Pres was in fine form and despite losing Kevin Brady and Jon Hicks, saw things home with late replacement Popstar Kershaw hitting the winning runs and thereby denying Mike a well deserved 50. He finished on 42 not out but was more than happy with the 30 points. Now for the big one against Reed next week.

July 8 CCC 191 all out beat Bentley Heath II 144 all out by 47 runs

Put in to bat Fosters made steady progress with Morgan boring everyone with 10 runs from 19 overs and El President scoring 28 and Jon Hicks 16. The innings looked in a bit of bother when Popstar Kershaw and debutant Priyesh (obviously not as easy as the U13s) fell cheaply.

It was left to Neil Hale (27) and debutant Dean Johnson (46) to settle things down with useful contributions from Akash, Richard (an average finally!) and John Langley to bring about a respectable score of 191.

In reply Bentley Heath were not expected to give much trouble, having failed to get a batting point all season. However despite great endeavour they found themselves on 139 for 3 and everything to play for. At this point they suffered a massive collapse losing 7 wickets for just 5 runs to leave Fosters victorious by 47 runs. Special mentions to Dean for his 4 for 27 and Richard for his figures of 3 for 24. Also a good looking spell from R Solanki with 2 for 31 from his left arm spin.

The side still remain 4th in the table with everything to play for in the coming weeks - particularly as the top 2 teams lost this week.

June 24 CCC 101 for 3 Beat Northampton Exiles III 99 all out by 7 wickets

A welcome 30 points for the 4th team have pt them back in promotion contention. Richard Blaby put in another excellent display taking 3 for 28 off of 17 overs bowling almost unchanged. He was ably supported by messrs Langley (1 for 22 from 10), Duncan (1 for 19 from 5) and Shadbolt (3 for 20 from 5) before Josh Kirk picked up a handy couple of cheap wickets with 2 for 4. A good day in the filed with 8 catches taken.

In reply Brian Wheeler (25) and Kevin Brady (32) got Fosters off to an excellent start, removing any doubts that may have been raised by early wickets. Jon Hicks chipped in with 19 before Tony Whaley and the Popstar saw us home by 7 wickets and with lots of overs to spare.

Presumably scorer Mike Pigden will able to inform everyone where all the bits of paper he carefully puts in each scorebook have gone to......?

June 17 CCC 232 for 6 lost to Potters Bar V 233 for 8 by 2 wickets

Lots of points but ultimately an unsuccessful day. Easily the best batting display of the season thanks to 58 from Jon Hicks, 40 from John Woodbridge, 34 from Mr President and 27 from Popstar Jon Kershaw saw Fosters reach 232 for 6. Potters Bar reached their target in only 40 overs but lost 8 wickets in reaching their target.

June 3 CCC 115 all out lost to Luton Town and Indians IV by 6 wickets

Despite having a strong bating line up, there were insufficient contributions from the top order and 115 was never going to be enough. Despite 3 wickets for President Chirag, Luton Town and Indians cruised home to their target

May 20 CCC 147 all out beat Hatfield III 30 all out by 117 runs

A solid batting display is followed up by a blitz that sees Hatfield skittled in just 14 overs to give an early finish and 30 points.

May 13 Letchworth IV 152 all out drew with CCC 140 for 9

6 wickets from Richie Sumner and a dogged last wicket stand between Akash Singh and Chris Stead Snr secured a draw in the opening league game
