U11 League Friday 16 June
CCC 114 for 6 beat Edmonton 90
for 7 by
24 runs
Solid batting at the top of the
order was capped by a wonderful display by Bradley Sayers who
punished anything loose for a personal best score of 47. His
downfall came in bizarre circumstances as, immediately following
hitting another boundary to finish the previous over he somehow
found himself facing the start of the next over - only to sky the
first ball to the grateful keeper. The views of his mother at this
point are not printable!
This was easily the U11s best
effort with the bat and as a result Edmonton were always under
pressure to keep up with the run rate against a team renowned for
its strength in the bowling department. Edmonton were always behind
the run rate........completed report to follow from someone who
watched the finish!!
U11 League Wednesday 10 May - Barend Velleman
CCC 62 all out beat Southgate 60
by 2 runs
Another fantastic nail-biting win for our unbeaten U11 league
champions of last season over our local rivals.
The start was
anything but encouraging. Sam Langley started with a four, but with
the score on seven, captain Brad Sayers (where have I heard that
surname before?) played across the line and was bowled for a duck.
Sam followed on the same score and despite some good shots by Nayan
Patel, Cockfosters were soon 24
for 6 with only seven overs gone. And I thought that
managing an under 11 side would be easy; thoughts of "Don't panic Mr
Mannering flashed through my head".
Step up the
younger Velleman. Liron joined Jamal Faisal at the crease with
strict instructions to use up the overs and let the extras from the
lesser Southgate bowlers mount up. The pair followed the plan to the
letter putting on the highest stand of the match to take the score
to 46 before Liron was
done by a yorker. 22 runs; Jamal
1; Liron 0; extras 21. A ninth wicket partnership of
12 between Morgan Holmes
and Jeremy Nestor took us to 62
all out off 18 overs. Something to defend at least.
The Southgate
openers strode confidently to the middle; two overs later, a fine
maiden from captain Sayer and an explosive double wicket maiden by
Nayan and the big 'S' were worried.
0-2. Nayan continued to
bowl tightly and Liron's first maiden over was followed by Gabriel
Navias conceding just a single. Six overs gone, Southgate
7-2. From that point, a
further 56 to win off 13 overs was always going to be a tough call.
Eight were
needed off the final over bowled by Gabriel. Two wickets in the
first three balls left eight off three and the Southgate innings
closed on 60, a two
run victory. Nayan Patel 4-0-7-3,
Gabrial Navias 3-0-7-2,
Brad Sayers 4-1-10-1
and George Uttley 3-0-11-1
were backed up by excellent fielding and stunning catches by Jamal
and Nayan.
