Under 17 Match Reports - 2006
|
U17 League Thursday 13 July Edmonton 120 all out CCC 121 for 4 - won by 6 wickets
Victory over Edmonton set up a final game
showdown with them for the title next Friday night.
In an exciting contest Edmonton made a
pretty good score of 120, but crucially failed to bat their full
allocation of 20 overs. Fine bowling by the Stead twins - James
finishing with 3 for 15 and Matt with 3 for 12 - were the mainstay from
the Fosters end, although wickets fell to most of the rest of the
bowling attack.
In response James Stead had his first
failure with the bat for many weeks and it was then left to Matt Stead
(32) and skipper Gareth Hooper (52 not out) to return some order. In the
end just 5 runs were needed from the final over and Gareth and John
Langley (9 not out) saw the lads home with 2 balls to spare. |

U17 League Tuesday 4 July Barnet
54 for 10 CCC 55 for 1 - Chris Kirk
After
last weeks narrow defeat at the hands of Mill Hill. The U17's
comprehensively defeated Barnet by 9 wickets.
Barnet
won the toss and elected to bat, the normal opening pair immediately
giving the opening batsmen a hard time. Matt Stead struck in the first
over to start with a wicket maiden. Tony Sayers from the other end fails
to remove a bat but keeps them busy with three overs.
First
change, on comes Duncan Pearce, who having had a busy time in the field,
has not had much time at the crease, is bought on by the Capt. After a
reasonable first over, he soon makes his mark in the second over with
his first U17 wicket. He is ably supported by Jim Stead and between them
they force Barnet to self destruct, Duncan taking 4 wickets for 31 and
Jim 2 wickets for 5, including 2 wicket maidens.
Over
15, Barnet are 8 down, Captain Hooper brings on Chris Duncan, who in one
over takes the remaining two, leaving Barnet 54 all out.
Jim
Stead and Tony Sayers open, Jim as usual straight into it and makes a
rapid 16 before being given out to what looked like another somewhat
dubious LBW. Sayers up until this point has been part of the audience,
suddenly opens up, and makes an excellent 33 not out leading us to
victory in just 7 overs.
The
team performed very well, with excellent tight fielding which really
restricted Barnet, although particular praise has to be given to Duncan
Pearce and Tony Sayers.
We have
two remaining games, both against Edmonton, (re arranged match) at home
on Wednesday 13th
July and the next away the following Thursday. Please come and support
us. |
U/17 League Thursday 29 June
Mill Hill Village 90 beat CCC 89 for 8 by one run
A close fought match marred by 'disappointments' over
certain umpiring decisions. Chris Kirk promises a full match report in
due course! |
U/17 League Thursday 22 June
Potters Bar 80 for 9, CCC 81 for 1 - won by 9 wickets
CCC U17 cruise to victory against Potters Bar U17 - Chris Kirk
Only the 3rd league game of the season saw the under
17's defeat Potters Bar by 9 wickets. CCC took the field. In the first
over Stead senior is overheard to say "Matthew hasn't taken any wickets
for the under seventeen's" followed by thank you 1 down. Sayers takes
one in the second over and both our opening pair are giving them a hard
time. Stead M second wicket massive shout for LBW....umpire O'Geare
takes best part of 10 seconds deliberation and gives him out. No trigger
fingers here.
First change, enter the secret weapon, seconded from
the under 15's S. Barker baffles them to the delight of the growing
crowd, in particular C. Edwards Esq.
Ouch, on comes Kirk, who feels the force, until he
redeems himself by C&B their big hitter. New man Ravi Solanki in his
first game has two overs and shows plenty of promise. James Stead,
always gives them trouble and has a good four overs for 1 wicket. Sam
Barker also takes a catch.
Last four overs re enter the first four bowlers,
Sayers bedazzles the audience, first one to Kirk at deep extra
cover. Sayers then has another who play on, but doesn't make the hat
trick and Matt Stead takes the last.
Tony
Sayers 4-2-2-3; Matt Stead 4-0-15-3
Potters Bar 80 for 9
Opening
for CCC James Stead and Tony Sayers; Tony makes a quick 12 and then
James is joined by his brother who go on to put on a fine display of
batting, much to the appreciation of the support. Both brothers taking
us to the win with James 40* and Matthew 22*
CCC 81 for 1

U/17 League Thursday 11 May - Chris Kirk
Potters Bar 84 for 8, CCC 85 for 3 - won by 7 wickets
The
opening match of the MCA League took us to The Walk, where in the
absence of El Captain, Mr Hooper, who was somewhat delayed, the toss
was again lost by his deputy Kirk junior. PB elected to bat. Birthday boy Matt Flecther took the gloves and Matt Stead opened the
attack, accompanied by Tony Sayers. PB started briskly, as expected,
they are always thought to be a strong team and of course this is
always a needle match.
The
boss had said 'Show no mercy' and the breakthrough came in third
over, when Mr Sayers removed their opener for 16. The arrival of the
skipper saw him take the second opener, with an excellent diving
catch, again off Sayers. Sayers
4-0-21-2. A
few words of encouragement from the back room staff. Aka Kirk,
Hooper and Stead senior, saw an increase in determination in the
field.
First change on came
James Stead and Dave Shadbolt, this is where the collapse started,
with the third falling to Shadbolt, with the assistance of the
birthday boy taking the catch, followed quickly by another this time
caught by the VC Kirk with Dave finishing with figures of
4-1-4-3.
It wasn't over yet, last change saw Chris Duncan coming on.
Chris Duncan followed in
the footsteps of Shadbolt, bowled the first, John Langley caught the
second and the keeper had the last,
2-0-5-3
Potters Bar 84 for 8. A
little chat about the 11 extras was mentioned during the break.
'Take it easy' were the
words from the temporary umpire/coach, Sam Penny and off we
went. Matt Flecther and Jim Stead opened and it all looked okay,
until Matt was given out to a very dubious LBW on 4, Jim was again
unlucky and went for 3. At the crease Matt Stead and Capt Hooper,
Matt went early on, step up Sayers, 'Please stay in today' and he
did. These two just took their time with Gareth making 41no and Tony
14 no, some fantastic shots and lots of encouragement from the rest
of the team.
CCC 85
for 3 in 15 overs
Great day, lots of
excellent fielding and all round good work.
