Under 17 Match Reports - 2007

U17 League Friday 6 July, Cockfosters 76 all out lost to Potters Bar 80 for 8 by 2 wickets

Having already won the league, Cockfosters took advantage of a day of dry weather to field an inexperienced side and enjoy themselves against Potters Bar.

Stand in skipper Matt Langley went early when he missed a full toss and wickets then fell steadily without too much impetus to the run rate, with the score around 35 for 5 after 10 overs. Matt Shore coming in at 6 showed himself to be the class of the side taking excellently judged quick singles and racing the score along with able support from Sam Barker. Unfortunately with 4 overs to go and 67 on the board the innings collapsed immediately following Matt's departure for 21. Sam soon followed for 12 going for a big hit and the lower order (containing some decent batsmen) were unable to make much impression as the innings finished rather comically on 76 - Daniel Smith running a single when unfortunately for him the ball had come off the bails!

In reply Chris Nickolls and Daniel Smith were expensive but successful as Potters Bar soon found themselves on 32 for 4. Chris in particular making this correspondent and snapper Richard Blaby happy after his first short ball went for 4 - following up with a yorker that took middle stump!

Will Hicks and Duncan Pearce both bowled well and as usual Sam Barker was crating havoc with his left arm spin - 2 wickets thanks to a good catch from Matt Shore and a stumping by Matt Langley has Potters Bar on 57 for 7. Unfortunately this was the point where the fielding (excellent to this point) turned somewhat sloppy as byes, overthrows and misfields effectively gifted a close fought game.

U17 League Thursday 28 June, Barnet 24 all out lost to Cockfosters 25 for 2 by 8 wickets

Another excellent performance from the U17 side saw them clinch the division title with a game to go. Featuring a number of players who now appear regularly in the Saturday league sides, the team has gone from strength to strength this season and this was epitomised by a crushing victory over local rivals Barnet, who were skittled out for just 24, with Sam Barker taking 4 for 4, Tony Sayers 2 for 4, the returning Daniel Smith 2 for 4 and Duncan Pearce 2 for 7. Cockfosters cruised to an 8 wicket victory losing just Matt Langley (10) and Daniel Smith and reaching their target.

U17 League Friday 4 May Edmonton 111, Cockfosters 112 for 3 - won by 7 wickets

This game turned into a comfortable victory for an Under 17 team that relied on a number of players who had not made that evening's Under 15 game to help make up the numbers.

An excellent bowling display helped to restrict Edmonton to no more than a par score. However it was the batting that was to win this match, with an excellent half century from Matt Langley bringing him a match winning 61. At the other and opener Chris Duncan provided valuable support, carrying his bat for an unbeaten 28 as Cockfosters cruised to an opening league victory.
